Manorama

Manorama (26 May 1937 – 10 October 2015) was a South Indian film actress. She showed her talent in comedy roles and acted in over 1500 films. She was affectionately known as ‘Achchi’ by the Tamil film industry and Tamil film fans.

She is proud to have played with five Chief Ministers of South India. C. N. Annaduraiand M. Karunanidhi have both acted with Manorama on stage. Then she has worked with both Jayalalithaa and M.G.Ramachandran  in Tamil films, and N. T. Rama Rao in Telugu films.

Early life
Manorama’s maiden name is Gopichanda. His parents were Kasiyappan ‘Klakkudaiyar’ and Ramamirtham.  Manorama was born into a family in Rajamannargudi in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. The father worked as a road contractor. Father Kasiyappan Clarkudaiyar Manorama’s mother Ramamidham married their sister as a second wife. Following this, Ramamurthy Ammal, who was neglected due to grief with her husband, took Manorama and moved to Pallathur near Karaikudi. He made Manorama study till the sixth standard. Manorama, who is unable to attend school due to family poverty, works as a maid in a Chettiar house there. They started a business with their mother. He entered the acting profession at the age of twelve. At a young age Manorama was affectionately known as “Pallathur Baba”. Drama director Thiruvenkadam and harmonica artist Thiagarajan nicknamed him “Manorama”.

Death
Manorama died of a heart attack on October 10, 2015 at 11:00 pm at a private hospital in Chennai at the age of 78.
