The bound mouth of that skeleton tries to tell us something.A shudder grips us as if it is crying out: “Before taking my life, you choked my throat; you tied my mouth with a rope so the world wouldn’t even hear my final scream. But even though time has buried me beneath the soil, my remains today proclaim your crime to the world!”This skeleton with its bound mouth is a direct witness to how the Sinhala military suppressed the voice of the Tamil nation—which demanded rights by stripping away freedom of speech—through guns and brutal tortures. This is not the death of just a single individual; it is clear evidence of a planned genocide against a nation. The massacres staged in the Eelam soil were not accidental; they were meticulously planned and executed by the Sinhala chauvinistic governments and the tri-forces operating under their control.
Thousands of Tamils were arrested, abducted overnight, tortured, and buried in isolated spaces like Chemmani. Tamils have been denied even the right to demand justice for their loved ones killed in their own homeland. Throwing dust in the eyes of the international community and placing criminals at the pinnacle of power, the drama of the Sinhala governments continues to this day.
Chemmani is merely a symbol. Across the North and East of Sri Lanka, hundreds of such mass graves lie frozen like mustaches of sorrow without any identification.
“How many more skeletons remain unexcavated, weeping in the depths of this soil? How many mothers’ tears have dried in this sand?”
This question brings tears of blood to the heart of every Tamil. International nations dragging their feet under the guise of judicial investigations, and the Sinhala government staging domestic inquiry dramas, have always sided with the criminals rather than providing justice to the affected Tamils.
The message left to us by those throbbing skeletons from the depths of Chemmani is not just a warning, but a duty. Even as time passes and mass graves are dug up, the crimes of the Sinhala racist state will never fade away.
Every single bone buried in the earth will tomorrow stand as a witness to bring Sinhala chauvinism to the dock of history.
Justice may not be served; but truths never die!
The Chemmani mass graves will continue to strike the face of the world’s conscience, enduring forever as indelible scars in the liberation history of the Tamil nation!
It is natural for the injustices continuing for decades, the indifference of the international community, and our long wait for justice to push us into a deep sense of helplessness and fatigue.
The anguish that our duty ends with Facebook posts is a guilt that burns the conscience of the entire Tamil society today. However, the pressing question today is how to transform this feeling of helplessness into a constructive political and legal force.
The bones buried in the soil always raise questions before us. The responsibility of answering those questions still rests in our hands today. Beyond Facebook posts, this is the moment for us to move towards a resolute step for true justice.
