Cheran senguttuvan

Senguttuvan was the son of Neduncheralathan and Narchonai. Chola blood ran in his veins as well, as his mother Narchonai was from the Chola line (she is said to be related to the famous Karikala Cholan!)

Senguttuvan’s glory was sung at least in two Tamil literature:

  1. Silappathikaaram — He was the heroic King of this Tamil epic.
  2. Pathittruppathu — Out of the 10 x 10 poems of this Sangam literature, 10 poems are dedicated to this King.

He spent FIFTY years during his rule in planning and executing war strategies. He not only defeated the Kadambas and many other kings, but also melted their crowns of the Kings he defeated and made a necklace out of it for himself! Don’t know if there could be anyone as valiant and brave like Cheran Senguttuvan.

He was the older brother of Ilangovadigal, the author of Silappathikaram he traded with the Yavana Greeks, and above all, he brought a stone from the Himalayas to carve a statue for Kannagi and built a temple for her.
