Cyanide capsule

Cyanide capsule

A cyanide capsule (the bottle) & a plate on the chest of a fighter.

The bottle is made of glass. It is tied to a black or red rope and hung around the neck. It contains a chemical poison called ‘cyanide’ (the white powder in the bottle in the picture above).

Death occurs within 5 seconds of biting it. Ordinary LTTE fighters wear this. Karumpulikal, spies and LTTE investigators wear ‘double bottles’. They die the next second after biting it. This helped the LTTE fighters to escape from the clutches of the Sinhalese and Indian (Indian Peace Keeping Force) forces and eliminated the worries of being caught and tortured on the battlefield.

This bottle was a symbol of pride for a LTTE fighter and a symbol of the LTTE movement.

This is a picture taken during the Indian Peace Keeping Force. See the fighters in the picture with double bottles hanging around their necks:

This training is unique. It is very difficult to train without getting punished.

There is another type of this. It does not have an iron ring. It is smaller than this, the size of a test tube is 5-amp fuse. One side is closed with a rubber band. It should be kept in the mouth between the cheek and the teeth for 24 hours while in unprotected areas. When caught, the story can be told in 4 seconds by biting with the teeth. If you do not bite properly, you will be caught.
