Historical distinction for Eelam Tamils
Historical distinction for Eelam Tamils
My heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to Professor Nishan Kanagarajah, who has been knighted in the 2026 King’s New Year Honours for his immeasurable services to higher education and for championing the principles of equality and inclusion.
Born and educated in Eelam, Sir Nishan, who has achieved a high position in the global education sector in the United Kingdom, has a life’s journey that exemplifies excellence, perseverance and purposeful leadership.
As President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, and the first Tamil Vice-Chancellor in England’s first multicultural city, he has not only broken barriers but has redefined leadership with compassion, equality and vision.
A very well-deserved recognition.
May your legacy continue to inspire generations to come.
