From a freedom fighter to my mother….

25.02.1992
To my dear mother,
May this be the final letter your son writes. Carrying the thirst for Tamileelam in his heart. As a Tamil mother, I express my heartfelt gratitude to you for planting and nurturing the seed of affection in my mind even though I´m no more with the fighters, Ilampirai and Tamilmaran. I thank you for making me a devoted as you are the mother of Tamileelam and introducing me to so many brothers and sisters.

It may be painful for you that I stopped my university studies and joined the movement. The pain that you raised me with so much difficulty. But if there is pain for those of you who gave birth to me, what pain will the heart of the Mother of Tamileelam, who has given birth to thousands of people, feel?

Tell me, mother!

I will free the slavery of the Tamileelam mother? Did I go for drink alcohol, steal, wander around the village? No, mother. Would you watch if your child was beaten to death in front of you?
How many of the people of the Tamileelam mother are being shot? And being set on fire? Shouldn’t this be stopped, mother?

Blood marks all over the body of the Tamileelam mother. Her whole body is red. Shouldn’t this be removed, mother? Slave chains are tied to the legs and arms of the Tamil mother. Shouldn’t this be cut, mother? Shouldn’t we wipe out the sorrow that befell our Tamileelam, mother?

How many thousands of women have jumped into the field of struggle. They are fighting, giving up their dreams of wearing jewelry, giving up their dreams of wearing scarves!

How many children have come for their homeland! Don’t they know how to study. Don’t they know how to earn a degree and live? Don’t they know that they may meet death again? All these young flowers are walking on stones and thorns, covered in poison. These boys and girls have lost everything they shouldn’t lose, for what? Is it so that they don’t lose their freedom?

While they are carrying their suffering, should we also take a book and go to study?

Are 15-year-old boys who were roaming the streets for fun sacrificing their lives? No, mother. I can’t we even imagine that the next generation will come like this. We ourselves must fight and keep the next generation prosperous.

Lt. Tamilmaran
(Nellinathan Vivekanandhan, Araly North, Vattukottai) This fighter, who was killed on 09.07.92 during the fight with the troops advancing from Vetrilakeni towards Iyakachi, died a heroic death. This is a letter he wrote to his mother.

Today, more than 4250 fighters have died a heroic death. Will we forget their sacrifices?

So many fighters embraced death by trusting us. They must have died with the final wish that their dreams would be fulfilled. If we continue to waste time without fighting, wouldn’t that be a betrayal to them and to this land?

How many thousands of Tamils were massacred in southern Tamileelam? Lakhs of Tamils were dispersed from there and made refugees. Doesn’t all this emphasize the need and necessity of struggle in today’s times? Today, every Tamil dies needlessly and unjustly! Even their bodies lie in the streets without any reason!

Is this necessary, mother? I don’t want such a death. I want to make my death a history.

Mother, you may say that you have more affection for me. But two people have shown me more affection than you! One is Ilampirai, the other is Tamilmaran. I have also shown them undivided affection. They were born in a corner somewhere. I was born in a corner somewhere. It is only when I came to the movement, ready to lose everything, without any personal ties, that I see such affection.

Some people think that those in the movement are unkind and do not know what affection is. This is wrong. If there is no affection for the mother, how can there be affection for the motherland? These are the ones who make affection bow before the duty of liberating the motherland.

Just as it is true that you will suffer if I die a heroic death, those close to me – those who have shown immense affection for me will also suffer, mother.

The poet ‘Irumporai’ said; “Those who love me the most have not yet loved my weapon and uniform. But today, the Tamils and the youth who love me the most are still loving my weapon and uniform!”

Thank you.
