The humanitarian journalist who brought the plight of the Eelam Tamils to the world through radio. Patriot Punniyyamoorthy Sathyamoorthy’s memorial day is today –
He died in a shelling attack by the Sri Lankan army in Devipuram, Mullaithivu during the 2009 genocide of Sinhala chauvinism. He used to provide news on politics and the war situation to Tamil media and diaspora Tamil radio stations from the Vanni.
He used to record the voice of the Eelam Tamils through weekly research articles in the ‘Eelam Murasu’ weekly magazine and the daily “Naalithan Neram” program on ‘Tamil Eelam National Television’. On February 12, 2009, he was killed in a military attack while he was engaged in news gathering in the security zone.
He was honored by the movement for his media work with the ‘Patriot’ award. Media voices have been suppressed many times due to the brutality of Sinhala chauvinism. The unknown man named Sathyamoorthy has also joined the list of losses from Nimalarajan to Taragi Sivaram.
The loss of freedom thinker Sathyamoorthy, who was killed in Suttathanapuram by the Sinhala chauvinist projectile, is a great loss for Tamileelam.
