Satya (Sivasupramaniam Gnanakaran), renowned as the voice behind the Tamil Eelam

Satya (Sivasupramaniam Gnanakaran), renowned as the voice behind the Tamil Eelam armed struggle’s movement’s radio broadcasts, has passed away due to a heart attack. He first read the news on the radio in 1990s, introducing himself with the name “Satya,” which soon became iconic within the armed struggle movement.

Until 2003, Satya served as both news editor and news broadcaster for the defacto nation of Tamil Eelam. His delivery was profoundly evocative—each announcement carried not just information, but the emotion and hope of a nation striving toward it’s dream. Listeners often felt that his voice gave life to the very vision of Tamil Eelam.

He was the enduring voice behind the monthly program “Contemporary Perspective”, broadcast as part of Nidarsanam’s video magazine Olayveethu over many years.

He dedicated many years as the voice-over artist for the monthly series “Samakaalap Paarvai (Contemporary Perspective)” in the video magazine Olayveethu (Beacon of Light), published by Nidarsanam.

Nidarshanam Company, whose very name stands for Realism in Action, produced “Liberation Spark”, a program that featured an interview with the National Leader of Tamil Eelam. Satya was the voiceover narrator for the program. Celebrated for his distinctive narration, he served as the lead voice-over in many documentaries, among them;“50 Years of Defiant Dignity” / {Talai Nimirvu 50} , a “Realism in Action” production commemorating the National Leader’s 50th birthday anniversary.

Prior to the relocation, the National Leader met with and honored the “Realism in Action” {Nidarsanam} organization on two occasions — first in Yaalpaanam, {Jaffna } and later in Mulliyawala — during the 1998 period when Tiger Voice Radio was active.
He played a leading role in the writing, production, and narration of the historical radio series Kaalachakkaram (Wheel of Time), a compelling exploration of historical cycles, broadcast on Tiger Voice Radio in collaboration with the late artist Sanganathan, whose contributions left a lasting imprint. Additionally, he developed and lent his voice to Manmuthram (Seal of the Earth) — a thoughtfully crafted program centered on themes of agriculture, rural identity, and the deep connection between people and their native homeland.

He had produced the interview program; “The Roaming Voice of the Community” / { Ur Kuthum Olivangi }, broadcast on Tigers’ Voice Radio, which served as a powerful medium — a true voice of the people, carrying their stories, struggles, and hopes.

After a long and meaningful career in media, he stepped away in 2003, choosing instead to share his knowledge and guidance as a part-time English teacher, and eventually continuing as a dedicated educator.

In recent days, he suffered injuries from an unfortunate accident and was admitted to the hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he passed away today due to a sudden heart attack, leaving behind a legacy marked by service, creativity, and commitment to his people.

Until the dark night of May 16, 2009, the voice of the Tigers resounded with courage and hope, before being silenced by the invasion and ongoing occupation of Tamil Eelam.

A voice that will echo in our hearts forever—never to be forgotten.
Praise and worship.
