Although The island of Sri Lanka is today presented as a “Sinhala nation” belonging only to Sinhala Buddhists, the deep pages of history speak the truth loudly.
Sri Lanka does not belong only to the Sinhalese:
It is must for us to confront with evidence the systematic attempts to distort history and hide the origins of the Tamils who have been living here as native people for thousands of years. Sinhala is not a pure language like Tamil. Tamil is the oldest and most classical language in the world. Sinhala is a mixed language formed by a large mixture of Pali, Sanskrit and the languages of the Bengal region from North India.
While Tamil, the oldest language in the world, has literature and inscriptions dating back to BC, Sinhala does not have such a long and unique history. Although the island of Sri Lanka is today presented as a “Sinhala nation” belonging only to Sinhala Buddhists, the deep pages of history speak the truth loudly. It is a proven fact that it was formed over time by a mixture of many languages and is not the original language of this land. It is completely contrary to history to say that the Sinhalese are the original people of Sri Lanka.
The Buddhist text Mahavamsa itself answers this:
History says that when Vijayan and his 700 companions, who were exiled from India, landed on the island of Sri Lanka, they were welcomed by a woman from the Iyakar clan named Kuveni.
If a queen named Kuveni lived here when Vijayan arrived, then there was a prosperous civilization here before Vijayan. The ‘Iyakar’ and ‘Nagar’ clans based on Kuveni are the original clans of the Tamils. These are the native people of this land. It is a great historical distortion for those who came in search of a livelihood (the descendants of Vijaya) to present themselves as sons of the land and try to portray the Tamils who already ruled here as foreigners.
Those who want to hide the origins of the Tamils are trying to change the places of worship and archaeological evidence that still stand as witnesses today. The best examples of this are Kaniya Venniruttu, Anuradhapuram, Kataragama and Nainathivu.
🔹Kataragama:
This is the holy land of the Tamil god Murugan.
This is a place that Tamils have been worshipping as “Katargama Kandan” for thousands of years. Today it has been Sinhalized and portrayed as a Buddhist place. It is true that Tamils have been worshipping Lord Murugan in Kataragama since before the emergence of the Sinhala language or Buddhism.
🔹Nainathivu (Naagadeepam):
Nainathivu, which is mentioned as “Manipallavam” in the ancient Tamil literature Manimekalai Kaappiyam, is the place where the Nagas, the original inhabitants of the Tamils, lived. The Nagapoosani Amman temple here is very ancient. Today there are efforts to promote it as “Naagadeepam Vihara”, to hide the Tamil culture there and make it a place only for Buddhists.
There are many more like this.
These are not just religious places, but also indelible historical documents that the Tamils are the original inhabitants of this land. The Department of Archaeology is acting as a political weapon to change the history of Sri Lanka. In this sector, only Sinhalese are deliberately employed, and the historical traces of Tamils are destroyed or distorted in a cunning way. They hide the Tamil Brahmi inscriptions, and the ruins of Saiva temples found during excavations in Tamil areas and try to establish false evidence that a Buddha statue was there.
Even if they destroy the evidence that Tamils lived here since a thousand years ago, the truth can never be covered up. Today, the land grabbing in the North-East led by Buddhist monks and the occupation of Tamil land in the name of “holy land” are not ordinary. These are the manifestation of the faithless intention to destroy the existence of Tamils and completely turn Sri Lanka into a Sinhala-Buddhist country.
We Tamils must clearly understand the conspiracy to seize our lands under the guise of archaeology and turn it into a Sinhalese nation. Sri Lanka is not the exclusive property of the Sinhalese alone. The evidence spread from Kataragama to Nainathivu clearly shows that the Tamils are the oldest inhabitants of this land. History itself proves that the Sinhalese language or race are not of pure origin but are the result of mixing.
Looking back at history, a bitter truth shakes the heart.
If only Kuveni had not let Vijayan and his group in, and had chased them away, the Tamils would not have suffered such great destruction and historical distortions today. *The very generosity that allowed the Vannais to live has become a danger to the very existence of the Tamils today.* This also applies to Tamil Nadu! It is the duty of Tamils to overcome historical distortions and establish the rights to our land!
