The moment Major Dinesh
Pudukudiyiruppu is one of the villages which is placed I Mattacalappu which is surrounded by water on both sides and is a natural beauty, a place called singing fish. It was here that Jayakaran was born on the 15th of Masi in 1969 as the 6th child of the Sinnathambi Alagamma couple.
When his mother was sick when he was a child, his siblings raised him. When he was 5 years old, he was admitted to the Pudukudiyiruppu Kannagi Vidyalayam in Mattacalappu and studied with enthusiasm from the beginning. He used to spend his time by dividing his time between studying the subjects taught in the academy, gardening, and playing games at home.
He would make everyone laugh, from the teacher teaching at the academy to the students studying. His classroom was always lively. Having studied up to the general education standard. He was the head of the house in the annual house sports competition held at the school. He would not waste time on training to make his house win and would take care of everything. He was a member of the scout movement that operated in his school. He was also the head of a team. In his spare time, he would do weaving and earn money to use for school expenses.
In 1986, after appearing in the General Education Ordinary Level Examination and obtaining significant results in all subjects, he continued his studies at the Mattunagar Central College for higher education. Around 1984, when our movement organizations began to be formed in the East, he also dared to serve the movement. He did things like going from house to house to collect food and money for the fighters and pasting leaflets. He was also given some weapons training. Despite this, he did not stop studying and did not stop at anything when everything seemed important to him. Even during the critical period of the Indian Army, he continued to provide indirect assistance in his capacity.
After July 1983, when he saw with his own eyes and heard with his own ears all the atrocities that the Sinhalese government and the forces were committing against the Tamil people in all parts of Tamileelam, he would tremble with fear. Such incidents were what motivated him to fight.
When the second phase of the Eelam War began in 1990, our people were subjected to even worse atrocities by the Sinhalese army. This incident further instilled in his hatred for the soldiers. It made him think. After thinking about all the ways, he concluded that only by taking up arms could he free our people from slavery. He gathered many people who had studied with him and joined the Tamileelam liberation struggle. He was one of the fighters sent in hundreds to the Manalaru area, which was the heart of Tamileelam.
After training at the 11th training camp in Manalaru, he became a LTTE freedom fighter with the name Dinesh. He was selected by the Commander, Lt. Col. Anbu Anna, for 81MM motor training. Since he was talented, he easily learned about motor in a short time and surpassed the one who taught him. As a result, he was appointed in charge of all types of motor vehicles in Manalaru. He has used motor vehicles in all the military operations that took place in Manalaru, including the major operations that we planned and carried out, causing great damage to the army and achieving success.
In the Gajapala military operation he did not miss a beat and knocked down the enemy’s armored vehicles, disorienting them and receiving great praise. He was sent to further studies as a commander and studied there for two years. It gave him more knowledge. He measured and mapped the locations of our camps in the forest. He also measured and mapped the military camps around the forest with the help of a compass. He took care of everything from training the motor teams.
Poonagari Battle was the last battle he went to with a motor and then before the five major military camp attacks in Manalaru, which are described as special battles, it was Dinesh who was in charge of more than a hundred spies for a year and a half and provided data in those five military camps without any flaws according to the attack plan. The hardships and sufferings he suffered during that one-and-a-half-year period cannot be described in words.
After this, he was appointed as the Special Divisional Officer of Manalaru District while conducting reconnaissance operations for the Kenpam Army Camp located in the Weli Oya area and was injured in an enemy attack while the reconnaissance was being completed. After this, on 1995-05-28, he was appointed as the Deputy Commander of Mullai District. He took charge of his work and worked tirelessly without failing in his duties. He interacted with the fighters with love. He would not speak harsh words to even a fighter. No matter how big a mistake the fighter made, he would not think of hitting or talking to them. He would correct them only if they were called and told. Due to this, the fighter had immense trust and affection in him. Later, there was increased activity of army commandos in the forest. Dinesh tried to thwart this and conducted search operations in the forest with his brigade.
One day his efforts paid off when his team encountered the commando force and a major battle took place in the forest. In this, he inflicted heavy losses on the enemy, and he was also injured and lost the use of one of his arms. Following this, the enemy launched a major invasion of the Yarlpanam peninsula. At the last moment when our fighters were struggling to hold Yarlpanam, his team also went there and participated in that great battle and established a record.
Returning from Yarlpanam to Manalaru, he thought that since the enemy’s activity in Nedunkerni was high, we should intensify our attacks in the enemy’s territory to reduce the enemy’s activity. He went out to ambush. He did not rest even with his weak arm and went alone. Within a specified time, he searched for and captured three targets in Padaviya, Parakramapuram and Ariyakundan and returned.
After training for the fight himself and successfully conducting two battles, on the third day after the second battle, on 27-02-96, at 05.50 in the morning, he attacked the mini-camp located in the Ariyakundan area, killed eighteen soldiers and took away weapons and equipment. At the same time, an enemy bullet from somewhere hit his forehead. His inner dreams were written with the blood that flowed like rivers on the Nedunkerni that he loved.
He was admitted to the hospital and receiving treatment. On the sixth day, 03-03-96, at night, he joined the great line of maveerar. We stand on the edge of the ideal path that you walked. The ideal commander with a selfless heart. Until we see your ideal, our journey will continue the path of victory, your ideal, this is certain!
