The war between the LTTE and the Indian occupation forces

The war between the LTTE and the Indian occupation forces

As a result of the collusion of the Indian and Sri Lankan governments, a war broke out between the Indian army and the LTTE. Under the guise of disarmament, the Indian peacekeeping force entered the war against the LTTE. This war took the form of a war against the people of Tamileelam.

The Indo-LTTE war, which began on October 10, 1987, lasted for more than two years. The Indian government made heroic efforts to destroy the LTTE by deploying more than one lakh Indian soldiers on the battlefield. The Indian government also took revenge on the innocent Tamil people who supported the LTTE. More than six thousand innocent Tamils fell victim to the brutality of the Indian army.

The LTTE fought aggressively against the occupation army that had besieged the entire Tamileelam. They fought against all the waves of invasions with mountain-like determination. The unwavering courage and unwavering self-confidence of the LTTE stunned the Indian army. The Indian army’s resolve weakened after losing more than two thousand soldiers and failing to defeat the LTTE. The Indian government, having plunged into a long, difficult war, unprecedented in Indian history, and suffering heavy casualties, was unable to achieve its military objectives.

When the LTTE could not be defeated militarily, the Indian government staged a fake provincial council election with the aim of politically alienating it. Even then, the provincial council administration did not function due to the lack of public support.
Overall, the Indian intervention in Tamileelam failed. The Rajiv-JR agreement was ineffective and died. However, the Indian army continued to be present in Tamileelam.
