Today is the birthday of Brigadier Theepan
His memories….
Strongness based on morality, that is the structure of the Tamil National Army. Only the Tamil National Army has the morality that no other soldier in the world has. Every Tamil can be proud of this. Our national leader built the Tamil National Army by standing on the path of morality.
He created the Maravar with morality. Our freedom fighters never stood against morality at any stage. They never destroyed individual morality in their lives. All thoughts and actions worked solely for the salvation of their people. The liberation of their land was their lifeblood. They considered their wounds as insignificant and whirled around the field like the wind.
The feet of our freedom fighters flew faster than the feet of their masters. There is no one on the world stage who stood together in valor and wisdom like our Tamil National Army. No matter which army or country was at war, it was considered a normal occurrence for women to be subjected to sexual perversions in that country. Not even an atom, not even a particle of an atom, went against the thoughts of our freedom fighters and our national leader. The Sinhalese people themselves were so prosperous that they could sit on their mental thrones and admire the beauty of our freedom fighters.
Our Tamil National Army freedom fighters are the owners of uncompromising morality. Our national leader demonstrated this through his life, his actions, his words and his deeds. Because his bowing and rising were based on morality, evidence is scattered not only in Tamileelam but also in the Sinhalese island that our Tamil National Army, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, has never acted contrary to morality.
Sinhalese youths describe our Tamil National Army with a smiling face as if they have never seen freedom fighters with such restraint and self-discipline. Even though they were warriors, fighters, and fearless fighters, our Tamil National Army never tried to support injustice. That is the gift of our national leader who sowed the seeds of valor and gave the world the identity of Tamil nationalism. In the ranks of such heroes who fought in the field, we are compelled to praise the noble deeds of brave fighters like Balraj and Theepan. The hero Theepan was born in the war-torn land of Thenmaradchi in Yarlpanam district.
Theepan, who excelled as a science student at Savakacheri Hindu College, considered the liberation of his people to be better than this and felt the need to register his name as a name that would be read in the pages of history, so he joined the movement.
The hero Major Kedeeles, who introduced Theepan to the movement, was killed in an explosion that took place under his baton on 14.2.1987. The precious pearl he found was the movement fighter named Theepan. Bhagiratha Kumar changed his name to Theepan after joining the movement in 1984.
On Monday, July 29, 1987, when the various wars that occurred due to the fundamental violations of the Indo-Sri Lankan agreement turned into a major uprising and a war against the Indian Army, our national leader appointed Theepan as the Military Coordinator in Kilinochchi and Balraj as the Military Coordinator in Mullaithivu in the war against the Tamil ethnic cleansing force called the Indian Peace Keeping Force.
When the Indian Peace Keeping Force increased the war of aggression instead of peace, Mullaithivu and Kilinochchi in Tamileelam faced the greatest resistance.
When Theepan was appointed as the Military Coordinator of the Vanni region in 1988 to assist Balraj, a great fighter who was capable, unshakable, respected and loved the land, they themselves would not have believed that the strength of the battles they led would become historical records. These comrades celebrated various special victories on the heads of the movement. They have never diminished their losses in any way.
All their thoughts are our nation. The command of our national leader is the sweet word that rings in their hearts. The words of our national leader are the guiding light that guides them. When the Indian peacekeeping force left Tamileelam in March 1990, the war between the Sinhala-Buddhist chauvinists and the Tamil nationalists began again in June.
The demolition of the camps at Mangulam and Kokkavil were historic victories witnessed by Brigadier Balraj on the battlefield.
The counter-attack on the Aanayiravu camp in 1991, which was carried out with great pride, bravery, wisdom, ability, dignity, and a precise analytical plan that no army in the world had ever performed, was recorded in the history of Tamileelam as the Aanayiravu victory.
Maveeran Balraj was appointed as the commander of the Charles Anthony Special Forces formed in 1992. At the same time, Theepan became the commander of the Vanni region.
The combination of these two, the battle on the Mankindi mountain, known as the land of the heart, brought a great victory that no one has ever been able to destroy in history. In addition, to explain Theepan’s bravery, the battles of Yarldevi and Thavalay Paaychal gave the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam a result that even the opponents were amazed and praised.
In this battle held in September 1993, Theepan filled the void left by Balraj who had left the battlefield due to his injury, and drove away the Sinhala chauvinist army, and staged a great breakthrough battle.
Theepan alone has the honor of implementing a new strategy of fighting standing between piles of dirt in military history, driving away the Sinhala army, breaking their psychology, and shattering the military hierarchy. Through this, the Sinhala army provided the movement with new military equipment and fled into hiding.
The great battle fought by Theepan, the Tamil National Army led by Theepan, and the Tamil National Army led by Banu at the Poonagari camp, drove them away, and even then the equipment they provided, especially the motorboats, led to the formation of Naval Team of the LTTE for the movement.
This battle, which took place in 1993, is still considered to be a great honor that has not been equaled until now.
When the talks that were held in 1994, when the then President of Sri Lanka, Satililawati Chandrika, were held, the incredibly capable fighter named Theepan made a strong record of his powerful contribution when another battle was held in 1995.
When Yarlpanam slipped from the hands of the movement, the leadership decided to make the Vanni its base. At that time, the Mullaithivu military camp was a major obstacle for the leadership. Knowing that the headquarters would function better in the Vanni area only by removing it, our leadership called Theepan and asked him to present a plan to remove the Mullaithivu military camp. When Theepan was asked to present a plan to remove the Mullaitivu military camp, Theepan formulated a very excellent plan and received great praise from our national leader. When the national leader ordered the attack to be carried out according to that plan, Theepan’s talent was revealed very well. July 18,1996 was a major attack that became a milestone in the history of the liberation of Tamileelam.

The Mullaithivu camp was destroyed, thousands of Sinhalese soldiers were killed, and the Sinhalese army fled and hid, leaving a huge pile of weapons in the hands of our movement. It can be said that this invasion diverted our national army from hand-to-hand combat and led it to traditional warfare.
Similarly, when the Sinhalese army launched the military operation called Jayasikuru in 1997, the responsibility of defending Puliyankulam was entrusted to the LTTE’s trusted hero, Theepan. The Sinhalese army, which had easily captured Omanthai and Nedungeni, was unable to capture Puliyankulam. Theepan emerged as a capable field hero who overwhelmed the Sinhalese army.
Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, who is today the embodiment of betrayal, has often claimed that he was the commander of the Vanni region during the Jayasikuru military operation.
But Karuna has been deliberately hiding the fact that the capable warrior Theepan who joined Karuna in the field work. Similarly, we must remember once again that Theepan was the one who led the LTTE that plotted the military operation called Satjeya in 1998.
History has recorded that Theepan’s contribution was immense when Kilinochchi was captured through Oyaatha Alaigal 2.
We now think of Theepan, who captured the command post in just three weeks after 18 months of fighting and made the Tamil bravery and the war skills of the LTTE known to the world.
The immeasurable attack that Theepan, who performed such a world-class field work, carried out in collaboration with Brigadier Balraj, and the bravery with which he moved faster than the wind on the battlefield of the Battle of Aanayiravu, still amaze us to this day.
When the Sinhala chauvinist government launched Operation Akinkela with the dream of recapturing the 24th of April 2000, with the dream of recapturing the Mandir, the fact that Theepan was on the battlefield as the commander of the great battle that dispersed the operation and drove out the 55th and 53rd divisions of the Sri Lankan army make us even more determined.
We may keep seeing various battlefields like this. Theepan is a fertile ground of immeasurable bravery. A hero who loved the homeland with all his heart. A relationship that stood shoulder to shoulder with the hero of the battlefields, Theepan, who was buried in the powerful camp of Balraj, is a man of great strength that will not be erased from our minds.
Today, these powerful heroes are not among us. They are crawling in Tamileelam like the wind. Those brave fighters are opening their eyes to see the homeland. We bow to the cause for which they fought, to the direction in which their lives traveled. We salute them.
We have an obligation to fulfill their thoughts. It is not our duty to praise their bravery alone. The great task that we must do is piling up before us to achieve what they set out to do. This is the duty of our time. The obligation to do this historical task immediately is embedded within us.
Only when we create a resurgent Tamileelam and dedicate it to their heroic lives will the thoughts and longings of those forgotten heroes be fulfilled.
Let us not wait for the day to do it. Let us do it today, right now.
