Towards our places – Murigandi
Murigandi is a beautiful town located in the Mullaithivu district of the Northern Province. It is a border village in the Vanni region, Mullaithivu district and Kilinochchi district. Murigandi is a town full of people living with devotion surrounded by forests.
Murigandi was once a peaceful town full of green forests and people. People here mainly lived by farming and trading. But this town was very affected due to the war that happened a few years ago. Tamils lost their homes and business premises and many other properties.
After the war, people returned to their village and started building houses and living. Today Murigandi is growing again. Agriculture, schools, and houses are all slowly improving.

Murigandi Pillaiyar Temple is very famous. Travelers traveling from north to south and all travelers traveling from south to north usually worship Murigandi Pillaiyar and rest there. Pillaiyar is located near the E9 road. The peanut shops around it is the symbol of Murigandi town. Peanut from Ambagamam and the surrounding areas of Vanni is fried to a paste in Murigandi and becomes delicious. For Eelam Tamils, the famous peanut from Murigandi town is enough to reminds them of Murigandi.
During the Jayasikuru military operation, the only land route connecting Mullaithivu and the rest of Kilinochchi district was through Murigandi. Murigandi, soaked in blood and sacrifice during the Eelam struggle, stands tall and has given countless fighters and maveerar to the motherland.
