Vavuniya Poonthoodam junction Massacre 1985.
It`s a beautiful village situated in the north of the island. It`s three kilometres away from north of Vavuniya, called Poonthoodam, means in English Flower garden. This village was surrounded by paddy fields. Most of the inhabitants were famers.
On 10th of August 1985 around 7 am, people were busy in their day’s activities. People were going to work, and children were going to school. The Poonthodam main street was busy with the people who were travelling for various purposes. Suddenly a Sri Lankan security forces vehicle appeared on the busiest road junction and started firing indiscriminately towards the people. And leaving dead number of Tamil people and injuring number others.
Ten people names were able to get from that day massacre.

2.Ponnampalam Villvarajah, 22yrs.
3. Kathirasu Santhirasekaram 25yrs.
4.Singaram Nagalingam 33 yrs.
5.Muniyanndi Mookan 34 yrs
6.Veermaredi Kovindarajah 38yrs.
7.Sinnakarupan Kidnasamy 40 yrs.
8.Thurairajah Nadasapillai 43 yrs.
9.Karupyia Ramaraj 48 yrs.
10.Kovindasamy Singaravellau 63 yrs.
P.S Several people were injured and affected by the incident. All the details are not available.
