Tamils have been living permanently in a particular land for a very long time. Those who have a culture that is unique. Those who had excelled in the fields of language , literature , and art in the centuries before Christ. Against this backdrop, there is no doubt that homes for the people , palaces for kings, shrines and many public buildings would have been built. There is nothing left because these are all built of perishable materials.

Buildings were built of stone in Tamil Nadu only after the sixth century . Most of these buildings are temples . The architecture of the high descent is slow. Yet parallel to these was another architectural tradition that included houses and buildings for ordinary people. The stone building tradition, which began in the sixth century , flourished until the Nayakar period
