Heads of state around the world are also participating in the Climate Change Conference in Scotland. The war criminal and president of Sri Lanka, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, is one of them. Thousands of Tamil diaspora from many countries came to Scotland to protest against the visit of the war criminal Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, Cop26 held at Glasgow, Scotland saw hundreds of Eelam Tamils gather outside protesting the arrival of the Genocider Gothabaya Rajapaksa, current SriLankan President. He was the Secretary of defence for the Srilankan State during the May 2009 Mullivaikkal Genocide,
The protestors were dismayed at the UN for extending its invite to Genocider, war criminal Gothabaya Rajapaksa and it’s failure to bring justice to the Eelam Tamil nation. This unacceptable act by the UN portrays the little interest they have to bring justice to Tamil Genocide.
Protesters held placards that read “Gothabaya is a genocider & war criminal and an environmental destroyer” and “Gothabaya destroys our environment for power” as they chanted to “Gothabaya Gothabaya where are my relatives ”
Gothabaya Rajapaksa was responsible for the murder and forced disappearances of hundreds of thousands of Tamils and for commanding the use of chemical weapons upon the Tamil nation. It undermines basic human rights, and any acknowledgment to the betterment of climate change.
As a perpetrator and architect of the Tamil genocide, he continues to be shielded from justice and accountability for the acts of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. The failure of international bodies and institutions to prevent the Mullivaikal genocide in May 2009, of the Tamil people resulted in one of the most heinous genocides of the 21st century.
One protestor commented “ we will not rest or be silenced until we get the justice we deserve ”
The Tamil Coordinating Committee has worked together with all the Tamil Political activists in UK to organise this protest and were very successful in rasing awareness about the visit of Genocider Gothabaya Rajapaksa by Projecting laser onto landmarks in Scotland, including the Parliament, and also worked along with activist in other parts of the world to raise awareness.
TCC would like to thank the MPs, Tamil People and Tamil activist who lent a hand in making this mass protest a successful event and by this, once again we shown that the Eelam Tamils continue to seek justice for the genocide perpetrated by the Sri Lankan state against them.
