TOWARDS OUR PLACES – Pallavaraayankaddu

Pallavaraayankaddu is a village in the northern province of Kilinochchi District.

King Pallavaraayan was the king of the Pallavaraayankaddu. He ruled the village with eighteen different laborers. His territorial was Mandakallaaru in the north, Mulangaavil in the south, Vanneri in the east and Ponnaaveli in the west. History says that during the reign of Pallavaraayan, a queen named Allirani ruled the northern kingdom of Arasapuram and a king named Karikalan ruled a kingdom called Manthai.

The agriculture was the primary industry of the village together with other eighteen related industries. Proof of that is the names of every industries related to the ponds in the area:

Kollankulam – for the iron work

Paththankulam – for jewellery work

Nakapaduvaan Kulam – for sculpture work

Kariyaalaikulam – for pottery work

Pandivettikulam – for hunting work

Vilvettikulam – the police industry

Devan Kulam – for temple work

Vannerikkulam – for instrumental work

Pallavaraayan Kaddukulam

Pallavaraayankaddu is a village ruled by setting up a number of ponds and constructing suitable works. It had a foundation for economic development and employment security of the people as befits the time.

Pallavaraayankaddu Kaaddupillaiyaar Temple and Vannerikkulam Iyanaar Temple are temples with spiritual sculpture and architecture. The king Pallavaraayan supported these temples. It is believed that these temples may have been destroyed during the invasion of foreign countries. Ruins of the king Pallavaraayan´s Fort can be shown in areas like Sunnaavil and Pallavaraayankaddu Mulangaavil.

Pallavaraayankaddu became a village society after the British left Sri Lanka in 1948. Its head office was in Manniya. After the 1960 settlement and the displacement of people during the war, names in the village changed.

Although Pallavaraayankaddu is a village that has welcomed people who entered the village. It is now a village without many basic facilities. Pallavaraayankaddu is a village who gave many maveerar and freedom fighters to the homeland.
