Jaffna-Kandy road (A9), which was closed by the Sinhala Army for more than a decade, officially reopened on 08.04.2002.
When the route was reopened in the Jaffna peninsula, tens of thousands of people rallied and appreciated the 15 LTTE military soldiers who had gone on to carry out political work.
The LTTE thwarted the Jayasikuru military operation by the Sinhala government to infiltrate Vanni which originally paved the way for the Sinhala government to control Jaffna. These roads were reopened for its Tamil Eelam civilians and was an LTTE military victory that was well celebrated.
The day the road opened was a tremendous victory for the Tamil Eelam military.
The opening of Jaffna Kandy Road (A9) was an emotional event !
