Born in 1954 in Maruthanchery, adjacent to Kutthalam, Sarangapani studied commerce at AVC College of Arts and Sciences, Mayiladuthurai, Kutthalam, Tamil Nādu. “Those who sacrifice their lives for Tamil, are truly the real Tamils” – said Sarangapani to the students in a state of inner emotional valour, demonstrating effectively in advancing the student struggle to preserve the indigenous Tamil identity and in due course showed his valor by self-immolation as a form of protest and sacrifice on 15.03. 1965, drawing attention to the ongoing political and social oppression facing the indigenous Tamils within the Indian subcontinent.
