Today, we remember and honour Martyr Pon. Sivakumaran Anna on the 50th anniversary of his martyrdom. At the onset of the Tamil Eelam Liberation war, while actively engaged in field operations, he took cyanide when encircled by Sri Lankan police unit. On 05.06.1974, he holds the distinction of being the first to embrace martyrdom for the liberation of Tamil Eelam and today marks the 50th anniversary of Martyr Pon. Sivakumaran Anna. “When Sinhala sowed oppression against the Tamils and enforced education standardization, they inadvertently sowed the seeds for Tamil Self-determination against tranny and oppression”.
In honour of the sacrifice made by Martyr Pon. Sivakumaran on June 5th, June 6th has been recognized as Tamil Eelam Student Uprising Day and a day of remembrance is observed by Tamils across the globe, including those in their homeland of Eelam. The dreams and aspirations of Martyr Pon. Sivakumaran were ultimately fulfilled by Tamil Eelam National Leader and his compatriots. Today, Tamil Eelam nation marches victoriously towards his dream of an independent Tamil Eelam homeland.
