Tamil Eelam Heroes’ Day – 2005: Memorial Bell Tolling and Candle Lighting

Tamil Eelam Heroes’ Day – 2005: Memorial Bell Tolling and Candle Lighting

On the 27th, the Tamil Eelam people eagerly await the moment for lighting the memorial flame, which takes place at 6:05 p.m. Across Tamil Eelam, simultaneously, the bells of all temples and churches will ring for a minute. Following this time, everyone will observe a moment of silence in honor.

When the memorial bell tolls, it is the duty of everyone to pause and observe a minute of silence. Whether on foot or in a vehicle, all must stop and pay their respects for that minute, wherever they may be.

At the Thuyilum Illam (Resting

Place) event, a large elevated flame will be placed on the podium. Gathered in an overwhelming show of emotion, the crowd will stand around the field, remembering the sacrifices as the ceremonial flame is lit.

The main leaders of the organization, alongside the families of the fallen heroes and the wounded, will light the central flame simultaneously. In every home and at every doorway, people will light the Heroes’ flame in remembrance.

The flame will spread its light, and in each flame, the faces of the fallen heroes will shine, illuminating all of Tamil Eelam. As people stand with tears in their eyes, overcome with emotion, the sacrifices of the martyrs will be rekindled in the hearts of every Eelam Tamilian. These flames should be remembered as the torches of sacrifice. Like stars, the Heroes’ flames should shine across Tamil Eelam at this time.

In places where small oil lamps can be lit, a collective display of oil lamps can be arranged for remembrance. Torches should be lit at doorways and large flames in public spaces to honor the memory.

This flame-lighting ceremony stands as a symbol of commitment and passion on the path to liberation. The Tamil Eelam Heroes’ Memorial will remain on the soil of Tamil Eelam, as long as the Tamil people endure, holding the image of the heroes forever in their hearts.
