The Tamil nation has lost a noble man who tirelessly fought for the liberation of the Tamil people and the liberation of the land of Tamil Eelam as the highest ideal of his life. A great man has fallen victim to a brutal attack today. Mr. Ariyanayagam Chandraneru was a selfless and humane public welfare supporter. A great human rights activist. A revolutionary politician. A great worker who captivated the hearts of everyone. His death is an irreparable loss to the Tamil nation. His life was united with the land of Ampara and the people of that land. In the days when the war of extermination of the Tamil people by the Sinhalese forces was at its peak and in the days when there is a ceasefire, he stood together with that land and those people and faced everything. He exposed the destruction and atrocities committed by the Sinhalese forces on Ampara to the world with courage and honesty.

Within the constant threats of the Sinhalese forces, even when dangers appeared, he fought against injustice with fearlessness and huge courage. He was one of the founders of human rights in the North and East and worked tirelessly for the rights of the Tamil people.

He clearly presented the reasons and justifications of the struggle of the Tamil people in the world. His work is always commendable. I am proud to present the highest national award of “Mamanithar” to Mr. Ariyanayagam Chandraneru in respect of his freedom struggle and to honor his good work.

Death does not destroy great men who lived for a noble ideal. They have an permanent place in the soul of our nation.

(V. Prabhakaran) National leader
