Oyaatha Alayhal 2 & 3 – Through this operation, the LTTE reclaimed a large area of Tamil Eelam. The Srin Lankan government was furious that the LTTE had captured Elephant Pass back again. After 9 years in lions cage Elephant Pass became the property of the Tamil people. The national leader realizing that the Sri Lankan Army was trying to take the Elephant Pass again. He made a plan. He made strengthen the project in the front lines in Eluthumadduval, MUhamalai, Galle and Nagarkovil.
Lt. Colonel Ponnamman from Mines Brigade was the leader of this project. This brigade included only female fighters. 2nd Lt. Malathy Brigade and Major Sothiya Brigade were also in this protection of front lines. The work was done in 24.01.2001. In the morning 5.30 the Sri Lankan Army stormed into the areas and encircled the fighters in a box. The heavy fight began. The women fighters captured the fallen shields and moved forward and the Sri Lankan Army followed after and captured it back. Again the women fighters took back the shields and the Sri Lankan Army followed again. This went on for over 14 times.
Lt. Colonel Kuttisri Motor Women´s Brigade projectile fired shells as they stood in front of the barrack and listened to the fighters. The Sri Lankan Army were now fired the projectile back. Normally the projectile would be fired a safe distance from the battlefield. The fighters changed their strategy as they continued to provide support to the front line fighters. They began to attack the surrounding troops with their firearms. The missiles fired and the canon reddened. At the end of the third day, the Sri Lankan Army was unable to make up the losses then they began to flee. The remaining fighters and border guards closed all the way the Sri Lankan troops entered inside. There were gunfire in front of and back the Sri Lankan Army. The Sri Lankan Army tried to flee and fell for the fighters´ gunfire and attack. In all directions as they tried to escape, all forms of explosives were detonated. Lt. Colonel Ponnamman´s mines became known for their hard work.
