The activity of the “Venpura” in human expressions

Prostheses made of fiberglass are very delicate workmanship. Each of the users accurately measures the affected leg and then molds it into a mold. Then there will be made a prosthetic foot out of fiberglass with the shape of that axis. That is why it is difficult making fiberglass legs as fast as making three tin legs in two hours.

It costs the “Venpura” place 12000 rupees (150 euros) to make a tin prosthesis and keep a beneficiary in the “Venlura” place for a week to train them, include food and a place for staying.

From 1994 to December 2001, because of tin legs only the “Venpura” had to repair 1197 prosthetic leg 9893 times. At the same time, prosthetic legs made of fiberglass have many advanced advantages, although the cost and time of prostheses made of fiberglass is slightly higher.

I.e. prosthetic leg made of fiberglass:

1. Does not rust as legs made of tin.
2. Lightweight for the wearer.
3. Made on molded axis, compatible with foot. So no bars are required to fit the prosthesis.
4. Occurs in prostheses made of tin. Corrective work is extremely rare for legs that develop in this way.
5. Measure the size of the legs and the size of the knee chip very accurately. As it is taken, there is no possibility of spinal flexion.
6. The factors that cause the affected leg area to become thinner are reduced.
7. The rubbery area between the affected leg area and the prosthesis prevents wasted irritation to the foot.
8. The leg can be easily folded and stretched.
9. Easily removable.

These advantages and disadvantages of making prosthetic legs in modern fiberglass are known by comparing the pros and cons of tin prostheses made so far with the technology used to make prostheses in Germany. The German branch of the Tamil Rehabilitation Society (TNRC) has successfully launched a project to implement the artificial insemination workshop at the “Venpura” in Kilinochchi.
