Heroes” Day in Tamil Eelam
During Heroes’ Day, many families of fallen Tigers visit the “Maveerar Thuyilumillam” (tombs of Tamil Heroes) to pay their respects. Tamileelam National Flag hoisting and floral tributes are the main events during this special day.
Heroes’ Day was followed by a speech from the Tamil Eelam National Leader. This included various art events and speeches that could evoke the desire for liberation and heroism. Family members of Maveerar (Tigers) were also honored during this memorial service.
Since the war was silenced in 2009 the Sri Lankan government has been destroying the “Maveerar Thuyilumillam” homes of the Heroes’ day memorial and banning Heroes’ Day commemorations.
