A senior member of the LTTE, writer, literary critic and orator, Balakumaran had distinctly mentioned in 2004 that the Tamils could not achieve anything with a “victim mindset”. It is noteworthy that he had sustained injuries during a shell attack whilst visiting IDPs in Udaiyaarkaddu on 26.01.2009 – a few months prior to when he was forcibly disappeared.
His insights from 2004 can be applied to the current context as he had indicated that any dilution of the Tamils’ demand would only lead Tamils towards a genocidal annihilation. Therefore, the context within which the genocidal state had forcibly disappeared such minds becomes apparent.
