Thiruparankundram is the place where Deivaanai was married.
After defeating Sooran and deciding to rest, Murugan asked Lord Indra for advice on where to go. He showed him the best place to relax in the mountains of Parangunram. Murugan went there and took with him Brahman, Perumal, Devendran and all the devas. Murugan was very fond of that mountain. When Lord Murugan was worshiping Lord Shiva at the Shiva temple there, Indra said, “You are old enough to get married. I have a daughter, Deivaanai.”
Knowing about the penance that Deivaanai was going to marry Murugan, Murugan said that it was the right time for the wedding and brought Deivaanai from the world of Deva and the marriage took place like a festival. This is why Thirupparankundram is the first of the six houses.
Thiruchendhoor is the place where Sooran was destroyed and returned.
Brahma, Vishnu, Indra and the gods came to Kailaayam to see Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva complained that Sooran had imprisoned the gods. On hearing this, Lord Shiva gave a powerful bow to his son Murugan and asked him to send Sooran with the gods. Murugan went with the gods to mount it. On the way to the battle, Naaradhar advised Murugan to destroy his brother Tarakaasuran before destroying Sooran.
Next he went to destroy Surabaya. Sooran is also very powerful so some day after the war Murugan got angry and split Sooran in two using the powerful bow given by his father. Then Sooran realized the mistake and apologized. Murugan split it to mount it and turned his body into a peacock and rooster and kept it with him. Thiruchendhoor Murugan Temple is very famous because it came to Thiruchendhoor after the war.
This is the place to fight for fruit.
This story is very interesting. When Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha, Murugan was all in Kailash, Naaradhar brought a powerful enlightenment to Shiva. When both Murugan and Ganesha were arguing over a fruit, Shiva came up with an idea.
He put up a contest in which the winner will get the said fruit.
The competition was so fierce that he declared that this fruit was for the one who was the first to travel the world. Murugan was overjoyed to hear this, took his peacock vehicle and set out to travel the world. When he came back, there was a shock awaiting him.
Ganesha came up with an idea while thinking about how his vehicle which is a mouse would travel around the world. He went to Narada and ask him what is all Sivamaya, Narada said that Shiva and Parvati are everywhere in the world ans together both of them are considered the mother of the world. Hearing this, Ganesha came around his mother and father and won the contest and got wisdom.
When Murugan came to know this, he got angry and took off all his jewels and threw them and went away like an Aandi and stood on a hill (Palani). That is why he also has the name Pazhaniyaandi. Then came his mother, the gods and all said peace and took him away. The hill that stood as Aandi for fruit became Palani hill.
Swamimalai is the place where he preached to his father.
While Murugan was playing with Veerappan, Brahmman went through that way without coming to see Murugan. Thus enraged Murugan called Brahmman and asked him to recite the Pranava mantra. Reluctant to say it, Brahmman was imprisoned for saying that he did not know it. Knowing this, Lord Siva came to the spot and asked to release him without any investigation. Murugan released him without speaking against it.
Instead, he pretended not to know what Murugan meant by Pranava Mantra to Shiva. Then Lord Murugan told Lord Shiva to stand with his hands clasped and recite the Pranava mantra.
The name Swaminaathar came from the fact that he preached to his father and the name Swaamimalai came from the fact that the temple is located on a hill.
