Dandapani, the youngest son of Mariyappan and Mariyambal, who hailed from Kulathuppalayam in Thondamuthur City, Coimbatore, Tamil Nādu.– P. S. G. College of Technology – where he was an engineering student. During that 1960s period, he was troubled about the reports of young Tamil individuals who were resorting to self-immolation as a manner of protest against the imposition of Hindi language onto Tamil Nadu by the recently established Indian government as well as the on-going incidents of police firing against these student’s protest.
On March 2, 1965, he penned a letter commencing with “Uiir Tamilukku – Udal Mannukku” (my life for Tamil – and the body for the land) in which he detailed the cause of his departure and bid farewell to this world in his college hostel room at Peelamedu, Coimbatore, Tamil Nādu. He passed away at the Coimbatore Government Hospital.
