Mugaavil is a beautiful village in the Pachchilaipalli area of the Kilinochchi district in the north of Eelam. It is an ancient village and the people of the Pachchilaipalli meant to have lived in Mugaavil. Mugaavil meant in front of the camp. It said in there was and the place in front of the camp was called Mugaavil.
It said that the name Mugaavil was a name given by the Portuguese. There is evidence of a two-way trade through the port at the market in Cholar period. The village is associated with the most ancient villages of Puloli, Muhamalai and Iyakachchi.

The village was and still is an agricultural village. The village is rich in water resources. Mugaavil has over forty acres of field land, over twenty acres of rice mark and over two hundred and fifty acres of coconut plantations.

Our ancestors has used their geographical knowledge and economic knowledge here in this village, the evident shows. Cells and airstrikes were attacking the coconut plantations during the war.
