Narpitimunai village is one of the villages in the Kalmunai Divisional Secretariat Division, located at a distance of 3 km from Kalmunai town in the Ampara district. Villages like Senaikudiyiruppu, Thuraineelavanai, Malwattai and Weeramunai are located around Narpitimunai. The people living here have agriculture as their main occupation. To the south of the village is a beautiful village with a small river.
On the morning of 10.09.1990, the Special Task Force (STF) stationed at Kalmunai arrested the youths who had taken to the streets of Narpitimunai village and cordoned off the village. The encircled army broke down the doors of houses in the village of Narpitimunai and arrested more youths and took them to the Sri Lanka Task Force camp in Kalmunai. Twenty-three young men who were taken away died of severe torture. On 12.09.1990, the bodies of all those who died due to torture were buried in the same pit in the village of Thambiluvil.
