Thiruppuvanam – A pottery tile containing 13 letters (Tamil) has been found in the seventh phase excavation in the Sivagangai district in Keezhadi (கீழடி).
Seventh phase excavation is underway in Keezhadi (கீழடி), Agaram (அகரம்) and Kontagai (கொந்தகை). In Keezhadi (கீழடி) the excavations at the eight pits have uncovered gold earrings, algae, a plow tool, an iron weapon and a borehole. A Pottery tile containing 13 letters (in Tamil) have been found. The pot may have been written with thorns.
The Archaeological Survey of India has decided to study the inscriptions. Before this seventh phase excavation a pottery tile with the name “Uthiran” (உதிரன்) have been discovered. With a maximum number of 7-character pottery, the 13-character pottery is considered to be evidence of the existence of educated people here. In addition to the red pot found in Keezhadi (கீழடி) a dark red pot in color have been discovered at the excavation side.
At the depth of three and a half meters, the pot is 60 cm high, has an outer diameter of 34 cm, an inner diameter of 30 cm, an oral diameter of 24 cm and a thickness of 2 cm. Five more pots were found at the excavation side. These are light red in color. Not sure what the ingredients in the pot are. The Archaeological Department plans to take it out completely.”
