The Gangai Amaran underwater commando division,
The Gangai Amaran underwater commando division, one of the elite units of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), is a special force that the entire world has struggled to discover.
The operation of the Gangai Amaran underwater commando division, comparable to the elite forces of the world’s militaries, involves swimming underwater with the help of special equipment to attack naval vessels or other targets. Named after Lt. Col. Gangai Amaran, who led this division, the underwater commando unit of the Sea Tigers was distinguished by his name.
On May 9 2008, the Gangai Amaran underwater commando division sank the A-520 supply vessel. This was one of their major attacks, and during this assault, a Sri Lankan naval ship was sunk. This attack, conducted in an entirely new manner in the sea, shocked the international community.
This is because the early attacks of the Sea Tigers were associated with the Black Tigers, whose strategy was to fill boats with explosives and ram them into enemy vessels. However, in this completely new method, an underwater attack was conducted without the enemy’s knowledge. To further confuse the Sri Lankan government, those who achieved martyrdom in this event were announced as Black Tigers, but the type of attack was not disclosed.
The Sri Lankan military, with the assistance of various foreign militaries, attempted to uncover the method of this attack. They found the answer to this mystery long after the attack had been conducted
