Thileepan was born in Oorelu in Jaffna on November 27, 1967. After the of Father Selva´s non-violent struggle, the Tamil people took armed struggle. Thileepan, who was involved in the armed struggle, went on a hunger strike with five demands on September 15 1987. He also announced that he was not going to drink water intil the demands were met. However, those demands were not met and Thileepan died on September 26 1987, the 12th day of the hunger strike.
Five demands put forward by Thileepan:
1. Newly planned settlement in the name of resettlement in the North Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka must be stopped.
2. All Tamil political prisoners held in prisons and military police detention camps must be released.
3. The emergency law should be completely repealed.
4. The weapons provided to the city military must be completely dismantled.
5. Efforts to open new police stations in Tamil area should be completely stopped.
