Ancient currency notes have been found in Mannar Nanatan.

A number of 1904 coins, pots and pans have been found in a number of fish and sword symbols engraved on North Road near the Mannar Nanattan junction.

The money laundering came to light last Friday when the landowner was cutting the foundation for a house

After the matter was brought to the notice of the Deputy Chairman of Nanattan Pradeshiya Sabha, Deputy Chairman Bhuvanam handed over the currency notes to the Murungan Police Station Officer-in-Charge.

Murungan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Lionel said that all these coins will be handed over to the Archaeological Department through the Mannar Court.

It is noteworthy here that according to historical texts, fish and sword symbols can be traced back to the reign of the Pandyan kings.
