The Mullivaikkal memorial that was destroyed at the University of Jaffna

The Mullivaikkal memorial that was destroyed at the University of Jaffna has been rebuilt at the same place and reopened at 7am this morning. The Mullivaikkal monument erected at the University of Jaffna was demolished by the university administration on the night of January 8th

Following this, students, Tamil activist and political leaders condemned the university. Students started a hunger strike and protested outside the University Following this the foundation stone was laid by the Vice Chancellor on the morning of January 11 last year after the university administration proposed to re-erect the monument at the same site following intense pressure from students. The memorial was inaugurated on Friday after the completion of construction.
