Vairamuthu

Vairamuthu (Vairamuthu, July 13, 1953) is a famous Tamil film songwriter and poet. He has won the National Award for Best Songwriter seven times. He first wrote the song “Ponmalai Poothu” in the movie Nizhalgal (1980) and has written 5800 songs till January 2009. Formerly with Ilayaraja and later with A.R. His songs with Raghuvan have received accolades and many awards.

Biography

He was born in a farming family in Vadugapatti near Periyakulam, Theni district, Tamil Nadu, the son of Ramasamithevar and Angammal. He studied Tamil Literature at Pachaiyappan College, Chennai. He first composed the opening song for the 1980 film “Nizhalgal” beginning with “Ithu Oru Poonmaalai Pooluthu” His wife’s name is Ponmani. He has two sons, Madhan Karky and Kabilan Vairamuthu.
