Lieutenant Shankar Death of a warrior: Shankar, Satyanathan searched by the Armed Forces.
A guerrilla warrior who went into hiding at the age of 20, he was the one of the leader of the LTTE’s armed divisions.
He was waiting to dedicate himself to the movement at an early age with a revolutionary feeling in his heart. He stands around while escaping the sudden siege of the Royal Army and is wounded when the commandos fire a barrage of bombs, embracing the pride of being the first casualty in the movement.
Shankar is a person who does not know what fear is. He fearlessly engages in the production of bombs that can explode by hand and kill a person. Although he was the target of intense surveillance by government forces, he roamed the villages and streets without fear. At the same time his rotating eyes can observe the surrounding conditions closely. Shankar was always aware that even the slightest mistake he made unknowingly would endanger himself and his movement in the manner of a guerrilla warrior. He did not hesitate to drop one of his enemies and die if he fell into the hands of the forces.
He would feel distressed and upset when he reads the news about the freedom fighters being captured with weapons. Shankar, who is calm and does not talk much, had a deep meaning to this feeling. Shankar’s firm conviction was that it was cowardly for a freedom fighter to surrender without any resistance at the hands of state forces, armed. Especially in the early stages of the Tamil Eelam liberation struggle; Shankar felt that the tendency for government forces to arrest armed freedom fighters would boost their confidence in the government forces in defeating the liberation struggle.
The wounded man jumped over the wall and fled to another hideout of their guerrilla division, only to find that he had reached a safe place and he takes the revolver from the waist. This is the death of a warrior who is not caught in the hands of the enemy alive and nor armed.
What he achieved at the age of twenty-one belongs to the history of the Tamil Eelam struggle. Fascist dictator JR Jayewardene has said he can now send scouts to suppress the LTTE in the north. When
Jayewardene declared in the Sri Lankan capital, Shankar’s guerrilla attack on government forces under Nelliyadi showed the government that the struggle for Tamil Eelam would not end until Tamil Eelam was achieved. Shankar is credited with making the first successful attack on the driver of the jeep, stopping the jeep, opening the door and throwing the driver out with one hand. His ingenuity in aiming at the mere taking of the revolver from his waist. The scene of Shankar spreading his legs wide and standing sideways in Nelliyadi, whilst the whole town was in a state of panic is before our eyes.
Shankar also played a significant role in the success of the guerrilla attack led by Seelan on the Chavakachcheri police station. The poison test was to attack the Chavakachcheri police station, located a short distance from the main street with the terraced building, through the front gate, while the police stations were highlighted by the government. Shankar and Seelan did not fear the thought of dangers and obstacles; they have written their lives for the past and jumped on the bandwagon of revolution? Shankar, who was in-charge of one part of the Chavakachcheri police station with a G3 rifle, shocked the local government forces.
Shankar also worked hard on the Ponnalai blast. Sankar is responsible for the operation against United National Party member Thambappillai.
The ability to drive any type of vehicle neatly is a testament to Shankar’s multifaceted energy; excitement following a guerrilla attack. Shankar is adept at driving with great speed and composure amidst the urge to leave before the opposition arrives on the scene.
He will pay close attention when training weapons for fellow fighters; will explain clearly. He is interested in asking other things he does not know. He endured personal value among his fellow fighters for his love and kindness.
Shankar, who had an unshakable belief that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) could win under the political and military leadership of the LTTE, dissolved himself into the movement. The liberation struggle was Shankar’s whole breath. This hero jumped into the armed arena for the liberation struggle. He hated anti-social activities and opportunists. His mind was very clear and such heartfelt fighters bear witness to the purity of a liberation movement.
Shankar grew up under the political and the military guidance of Leader Prabhakaran. He had infinite value in Prabhakaran’s political purity. He has always said that a flourishing Tamil Eelam should be led by selfless-pure freedom fighters. These peaceful war veteran has risen with rage whenever the traitors seek to destroy the sacred movement.
Even at the time of his death, he did not think of his parents. The lips of the warrior uttered the words ‘Thampi Thampi’. The hero fell to his death to the dismay of his brother and other activists. Shankar, who was last reading the Russian novel “The Story of a Real Man”, did not finish reading the whole novel. The life of Shankar is ‘the story of the real man’ – Shankar himself is a heroic
epic.
