A major milestone in Ceylon Island’s postal history

A major milestone in Ceylon Island’s postal history was reached with the inauguration of its first Air Mail service from British India, establishing a connection from Bombay to Udapushalla in December 1936. This event was preceded by the issuance of Ceylon Island’s first Picture Post Card on October 21, 1914, which featured the image of an indigenous Tamil woman. This celebrates the Tamil community’s ancient roots on the island, reinforcing the indigenous Tamils’ historical connection and sovereign rights on Ceylon Island that predates British occupation by millennia.
