“Ancient Tamil Script.”

“Ancient Tamil Script.”
A scene from the Sangam period…

With the intention of earning wealth, the hero leaves his beloved and travels through the forest. Along the way, he sees an ancient nadukal (memorial hero stone). It is a memorial stone erected in remembrance of a warrior who had died while participating in a cattle raid/war. Details had been inscribed on that memorial stone using an ancient writing system known as Kuyil Ezhuthu.

Akam, Poem 297

“A weathered and fearsome hero stone, worn thin at the sides,
appears, bearing the Kuyil script,
so that the name and fame [of the fallen hero] may spread.”

Therefore…

The ancient Tamils had a writing system. It was known as Kuyil Ezhuthu. This script must have consisted of symbols that predated the ancient Tamil-Brahmi (Tamili) script.
