Artificial Inflation

Artificial Inflation

This program, which was initiated in August 1983, had a huge impact on the liberation struggle of Tamileelam. The Tamil resistance movement, which had taken shape in the historical development process, suddenly received an artificial surge due to Indian intervention. Many Tamil groups that had been inactive for no reason were revived and resurrected by India’s bloodlust. Indiscriminate recruitment took place in the hope of increasing the strength of the army. This allowed many anti-social forces to infiltrate these groups; as a result, discipline and control were disrupted.

Although the LTTE received a small amount of Indian assistance, they remained firm in their unique course and ideals, not yielding to Indian pressure. But most other organizations were completely enamored with Indian assistance and became slaves to the Indian leader. The RELO movement openly declared itself to be India’s mercenary army.

The Indian government, by implementing the arms training program on Indian land, also staged a negotiation drama in Colombo. It revived the dead coalition leadership and presented them as representatives of the Tamils at the All-Party Conference. On the one hand, it brought Tamil youth into the field as mercenaries and put the J.R. government under military pressure, and on the other hand, it tried to use the coalition as representatives of the Tamils and bring about a solution under unitary rule with minimal concessions. This role suited the coalition leaders who had retreated into the political wilderness. Therefore, they were ready to act as the Indian directors told them.

The All-Party Conference that began at the end of 1983 was delayed for some time and then ended in failure because the J.R. government refused to make even the minimum concessions. In 1984, the armed struggle of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam intensified. Hundreds of soldiers were killed in the continuous and decisive attacks carried out by the LTTE on multiple fronts. Many police stations were attacked and destroyed. As a result, the police administration service in the north was disrupted.

The landmines prepared by the LTTE in a very sophisticated manner caused heavy casualties on the military side. The army, enraged by this, took revenge on the innocent civilians. Several rural massacres took place in the Thiriconamalai and Vavuniya districts. The LTTE’s retaliatory attacks were designed in such a way that it could not escape after killing people. The Sinhalese government was horrified to see the LTTE movement growing to the point of facing the Sinhalese armed forces. The people of Tamileelam were delighted with the achievements of the LTTE’s struggle. The people did not fail to understand that the Tamil liberation struggle was taking the form of a full-fledged armed war.
