Heroic memories of Captain Kannalan

Captain Kannalan
Arumugam Amirthalingam
Tamileelam: Mattacalappu District
Birth: 29.05.1979
Death: 18.10.2006

Year 2004 date 26th. The tsunami disaster had claimed many lives and caused great destruction in our land. The family of the Captain Kannalan, whose native place was the Mattacalappu Katiraveli, was also caught in this destruction. Knowing the situation, he was sent to his hometown on vacation.

There was a lot of work for him there. From raising the family and taking care of the essential needs of the rest, such as shelter, food, and clothing, he was the one who did it all. He had to work to overcome his lack of a home.

But, having completed all the training plans for the main attack, he established both “love” and “duty” in one scale. His conscience jumped to the side of “duty”. He made a decision. He went to the person in charge of the attack and narrated his situation.

“I am going to do that operation. How long will it take to train and develop a new person for this operation. I must not let any delay in this operation.”

But you should take care of my family.

Even when he saw the poverty of the family, he did not back down from his goal and did his duty properly. He is none other than Captain Kannalan, One of the Karumpuli of the Naval Team who wrote history at the Galle Face Port.

Kannalan is a great hero who exemplifies Valluvan’s saying, “Even if one is hungry, one will be punished by the wise.”
