Darjini Shivalingam

Darshini Linga ( Tharjini Sivalingam,born 30 December 1978) was a Eelam Tamil valaippantatta astronaut, former chairman of the Sri Lanka team was valaippantatta. He has been playing in international tournaments with the Sri Lanka National Volleyball Team since 2009. He is considered one of the greatest athletes in the history of volleyball because of his unusual height. He is considered the tallest volleyball player in the world. In January 2019, he competed in the 2019 World Cup in Liverpool , England, and was declared the world’s top scorer (348). [3] He played for Sri Lanka for the 100th time internationally.

Biography

Dharsini was born in Punnalaikattuvan , Jaffna , the fifth of a family of six children. He faced many difficulties at a young age due to his extraordinary height. Dharsini graduated from Eastern University , Batticaloa with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.

Mission

Darshini joined the Sri Lankan volleyball team in 2009 when Tilaka Jindasa was the coach of the Sri Lankan team. Sri Lanka won the 2009 Asian Volleyball Championship as an Asian bowler. It also came second in the 2012 and 2014 Asian Games.

Despite being knocked out in the first round by Sri Lanka at the 2011 World Cup, Dharsini was declared the top scorer. He was dropped from the Sri Lanka national team in 2014 due to the Tamil political situation in Sri Lanka. When Tilaka Jindasa was re-appointed as coach, Dharsini was reinstated in the Sri Lankan team.

Darjini joined Seylan Bank as a banker. He played on the business volleyball team while working there.

In 2017 he had the opportunity to play for the City West Balkans volleyball team in Australia . He is the only Sri Lankan volleyball player to have played in a foreign team.

Sri Lanka beat Singapore 69-50 in the final of the 2018 Asian Volleyball Championship. Dharsini’s role in these competitions was significant. Darshini was named the Player of the Round at the 2018 Asian Games.
