In June 1990, the Sri Lankan government declared a severe economic blockade against the Tamil homeland. This includes a food restraint, fuel, electricity restraint, import ban, paper and textbook restraint, transport restraint, employment restraint, naval restraint, industrial restraint, fertilizer, seed, disinfectant restraint, ploughing machinery, ploughing implements, and battery restraint.

Without collapsing and surrendering to the enemy, Tamileelam Economic Development Corporation from 1983 began to prioritize its projects and implement them on a wartime basis, as they knew that such cruel restraints would be launched against the people of Tamileelam.

As part of this, the action plan contained in this press release was presented to the public in July 1990.
Such smart moves overcame financial obstacles and saved thousands of people from starvation.
