Death of Rajani
Exactly 27 days after Krishanthi’s murder, another woman was murdered in the same way in Urumpirai. The murder of that woman named Rajani did not become as much of a topic of discussion as Krishanthi’s murder. But the army that committed the murder was also punished. The reason for that is Mr. Gunanayakam.
He was the one who was responsible for arresting the army involved within a few days of Rajani’s murder. He was the only witness in the case. The government took care that Rajani’s murder did not get much media coverage.
How brave he must have been to dare to testify against the army as an individual in 1996.
After all, Rajani was not even his own child. He had never seen the child since the day of the incident. Even so, he went to Colombo for 14 years continuously to testify and was convicted of the murder that took place in 1996. He spent almost 15 lakhs of his own money on it. 15 lakhs was a big amount in those days.
His courage in testifying against the army at a time when people could have been shot for no reason should be commended. If social organizations that give awards to anyone call him and honor him, you too will get honor.
