Four heroes including Lt. Col. Kausalyan February 7 (2005)
February 7 (2005) was one of the sad days of the Tamil homeland. In the history of the liberation of Tamil Eelam, Lt. Col. Kausalyan, who stood for freedom, was cowardly killed by an anti-national gang in collaboration with the Sinhala army and three heroes, and the blood thirsty was quenched. The dedicated service and sacrifice of that hero named Kausalyan still stands before the eyes of the people of the homeland. Lt. Col. Kausalyan was born in Kokkatticholai, Bandariyaveli. That was his school days. The Sinhala fanatic army’s involvement in the destruction of the Tamil nation in the Tamil homeland breathe fire Kausalyan’s mind. The liberation struggle of the national leader attracted him. After giving up his schooling, he joined the liberation struggle.
Kausalyan, who trained at the military training college under the leadership of Mano Master, proved his valor against the enemy. His vast knowledge, enthusiasm, dedication and thirst for freedom made Kausalyan a great fighter. Period, he served as the Finance Officer of the Ampara District of Maddu and later assumed the responsibility of the Political Officer of the Ampara District of Batticaloa. Kausalyan worked hard to change the bitterness between the Tamil and Muslim communities in the war environment and to develop friendly relations and ethnic unity with Muslim brothers. After that, Kausalyan became a star of hope among the Tamil-speaking community. Not only this, but Kausalyan’s thoughts and projects are special in that the Ampara District, which was affected by the war and was economically weak, should be improved and developed.
Kausalyan, who was a person

who possessed all the qualities of love, character, affection, modesty, knowledge, bravery, wisdom, and a sense of freedom, realized well the conspiracies of Karuna, who tried to commit not only betrayal of trust but also treason in the history of Tamil Eelam’s liberation in 2004. Karuna went to Vanni to get rid of Karuna’s conspiracies so that he would not try to tarnish the Tamil Eelam liberation struggle through narrow regionalism. He informed the national leader about Karuna’s treachery. Not only did he thwart all Karuna’s regionalism and conspiracies, but he also made the people of Batticaloa understand the true situation and made them understand it. After Karuna’s treachery ended, Kausalyan resumed his political work and worked hard to strengthen unity by formulating plans for the unity of the Tamil-speaking community and holding many meetings with Muslim brothers.
The sudden tsunami disaster, human losses, damage and suffering all deeply affected Kausalyan. He worked with great interest in the relief work. Finally, in February 2005, Kausalyan, who had visited Kilinochchi, was returning towards Batticaloa after discussing with the national leader when the tragic incident occurred.

On March 7, while returning from Kilinochchi in a private vehicle with the great man Chandra Nehru and political activists, he was intercepted and shot at by Sri Lankan troops in the Welikanthai area. In that incident, Lt. Col. Kausalyan was martyred. Along with him, Major Pugazhavan (Sivalingam Suresh Thannamunai), Major Senthamizhan (Thambirasa Kandasamy Chinnawatthey), 2nd Lt. Vithimaran (Sivapadham Madhan Chettipalayam), great man Ariyanayakam Chandranehru and driver S. Vivekananthamoorthy were killed.
The traitors had mercilessly carried out this massacre during the time when the ceasefire agreement was in force in the area completely controlled by the Sri Lankan army. Hearing about the heroic death of Kausalyan, not only the Tamil homeland but also the international community was shocked. UN Secretary-General Gopi Annan himself condemned this massacre and issued a statement.
Muslim brothers also cried out. The Sinhala government carried out this massacre hypocritically by saying that the ceasefire is peaceful. At the last rites of Kausalyan and the fighters, Tamil Eelam Political Department In-charge S.P. Tamilselvan, special member K.V. Balakumar, departmental in-charges, commanders, and fighters attended and wept. That scene still melts the heart.

Meanwhile, former Ampara District Tamil Alliance Member of Parliament A. Chandranehru, who was seriously injured in the attack on Lt. Col. Kausalyan and his fighters in Welikanda, died on February 8. His death was a great loss to the Tamil people of Ampara District. Born on 06.40.1944, he worked hard for the rights of the Tamil nation like his father Arapor Ariyanayakam. Unable to tolerate his radical activities, the Sri Lankan army arrested him under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in 1983.
He was released from the Pusa concentration camp for three years until 1986 and continued his service with dedication for Tamil nationalism. The result of this was that the people wanted to field him as a candidate in the 12th general election of Sri Lanka in 2001. He was contested as the chief candidate of the people’s choice in constituency No. 4 and was elected as a member of parliament with 27,000 votes. He was elected as the fifth member of parliament in the district. He served the people in an excellent manner during his short parliamentary term. However, although his victory in the 13th parliamentary election was unfortunately not achieved, he showed great interest in identifying the shortcomings of the people in the district and finding solutions to them.
He worked tirelessly for the relief of the people of Ampara district, which suffered a lot of casualties after the tsunami disaster. Not only that, his commitment to Tamil nationalism and the national leadership was very great. In appreciation of his service, the national leader Chandra Nehru had awarded him the highest national award, the Maamanithar (Great Human Being) Award. It must be said that the Maamanithar Award expresses the service he rendered for the nation.
