Imran Pandian Brigade

The Imran Pandian Brigade was formed for the personal protection of Velupillai Prabhakaran.

A brigade for the national leader´s personal protection

In 1983 a capable brigade was needed for the personal protection of the Tamil Eelam national leader. At that time, the leader was given protection from Tamil Nadu, India. However, Imran was chosen and appointed for the personal protection of the leader. After Imran went to Tamil Nadu for treatment, the leader choose Pandian as the leader of his security forces. Pandian was a close friend of Imran. Imran and Pandian selected troops for the leader’s defense and recruited them. Imran and Pandian were the most loyal defenders of the leader to that extent.

The LTTE suffered a major setback during the Indian Army´s occupation of Jaffna. At that time Pandian was the leader of the LTTE brigade in Jaffna. Pandian shot himself with a handgun when he was surrounded by Indian Army in Jaffna. Imran was appointed as LTTE commander in Jaffna after Pandian was fallen for Tamil Eelam. Imran faced his death in direct battle with the India Army. Both freedom fighters became legends in the LTTE story.
