India and the Eelam Tamil problem…
Some True Explanations
Part 1:
Our beloved and respected people of Tamileelam!
The Yarlpanam region, which we have shed blood for over 10 years, made so many great sacrifices, and experienced so many hardships, and which we have reclaimed from the clutches of Sinhala extremism, has today fallen under the domination of the Indian army.
Today, the Indian army is occupying and enslaving us in our own land, where we have traditionally lived. In our motherland where we have roamed freely. First the Portuguese, then the Dutch (Holland), then the English, then the Sinhalese, and today the Indians. For almost 500 years, the Eelam Tamil people have been continuously oppressed under foreign colonial rule. In this, Indian occupation is a blatant historical betrayal of the Tamil people. It is a most insidious betrayal of trust that the Indian army. They came here to maintain peace in Tamileelam, provide security to the people of Tamileelam, and provide an autonomous state, has plundered our motherland and unleashed unjust oppression on our people.
Today, the brutal rule of the Indian occupation army is taking place in Tamileelam. Our people are being oppressed like never before. The brutality of the Indian army surpasses even the Sinhala state terrorism.
Why has India unleashed this terrorism on our people, who were considered allies of India?
Why has the Indian government waged this unjust war on us?
Why is the Indian government reluctant to destroy the LTTE?
Why is India making a concerted effort to impose the Indo-Sri Lanka Agreement and its main feature, the Provincial Council Scheme, on our people?
What are the fundamental flaws of the Provincial Council Scheme?
What are the contradictions that have arisen between the Indian government and the LTTE and their root causes?
Why were we forced to fight the Indian army?
The purpose of this publication is to provide clear answers to these questions and explain our position to the people.
It is well known that the Indian government is carrying out a systematic and unequal campaign against the LTTE using its propaganda tools. By restricting the access of international journalists to the press, which has been the voice of the Tamil people, and obscuring the truth from the world, the Indian government has also waged its propaganda war against us. The aim of the Indian propaganda is to justify the military action against our liberation movement, to portray us as the cause of all the suffering inflicted on our people, to alienate us from the people, and to portray us as an anti-people force that has no interest in the welfare of the people. We are presenting this statement before the people as a factual explanation that challenges this planned propaganda.
First, we would like to explain the relationship between the Indian government and the “TVP” movement, the contradictions that arose from time to time in this relationship, and the reasons why these contradictions intensified and eventually erupted into conflict.
The Jayewardene government, which came to power in 1977, intensified the ethnic oppression against the people of Tamileelam and also directed its foreign policy in favor of the interests of Western capitalism. The Jayewardene government believed that by freeing itself from the grip of the Indian regional power and making itself a subordinate country of the Western imperialist alliance, it would be an opportunity to enrich its economy on the path of capitalism and ethnically eliminate the Tamils. This new foreign policy of the Sri Lankan government, which was formed on this basis, became a catalyst for Indian regional power and geopolitical interests.
The ethnic earthquake of July 1983 and the subsequent Jayewardene’s recourse to Western imperialist forces further alarmed India. It was in this context that the Indian government intervened in the national issue of the Tamils in Eelam. This intervention was both overtly diplomatic and covertly military. While initiating talks in Colombo under the guise of mediation, India also planned to expand the armed struggle by providing military training and weapons to the Tamileelam militant organizations. This intervention by India did not serve the interests of the Tamileelam people and did not provide them with security.
India’s objective was to expand the armed struggle, further sharpen the ethnic crisis, apply military pressure through militant organizations, and diplomatically win over the Jayewardene government and bring Sri Lanka into its hegemonic strategy. That is, the Indian government purposefully tried to exploit the Eelam Tamil issue for the interests of its hegemony.
The Indian military training program for the Tamileelam freedom fighters was handed over to the Indian intelligence agency, ‘RAW’, by the former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Some of the arbitrary actions taken by the officers of this intelligence agency divided and clashed the militant organizations and prevented them from forming a unified national liberation movement, and made the militant organizations act as mercenary forces under the complete control of the Indian government.
These tactics used by them created cracks between our movement and ‘RAW’. We would also like to point out here that Chandrakasan was the one who supported ‘RAW’ in these conspiracies.
‘RAW’ officers contacted Chandrakasan regarding the implementation of the Indian military training program. At that time, ‘RAW’ officers known as Sami and Ravi Menon were operating in Chennai. They were friends of Chandrakasan. In September 1983, Chandrakasan was informed about the Indian training program. He was also given the responsibility of recommending liberation organizations.
At that time, the “TVP” movement was functioning as a structured liberation organization that had support among the people. At that time, our national leader and other commanders were fighting on the battlefield of Tamileelam and achieving great military achievements. During the period when the military and political units were expanded, local training programs were formulated, branches were opened internationally, and our movement was developing naturally in its own way, all other organizations were scattered and inactive. The movement leadership had moved from Tamileelam and was isolated in Tamil Nadu. It was in this situation that Chandrakasan’s intrigue began.
