International Mother Language Day. (February 21, 1999).

International Mother Language Day. (February 21, 1999).

Pakistan’s President Mohammad Ali Jinnah gave a speech at Dhaka University in East    Pakistan (Today’s Bangladesh). He declared Urdu as the official language. Bengali students rioted. They blared that Bengali is our golden language (Sonar Bangla).

Urdu was banished. The language war started. Four students died. It was the first struggle for the formation of Bangladesh A separate Bangladesh was won in 1971. A grand memorial was erected to all the four Martyrs in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Later, Bangladesh requested UNESCO to declare the day (February 21) when the language struggle began in 1948 as World Mother Language Day. UNESCO also accepted it and declared February 21 as World Mother Language Day in 1999.

Bengali is the official language of Bengal. Neither Arabic nor Urdu, a foreign religion of Islam, is a hindrance to the mother tongue of Bengali.

Now, we also fought to save Tamil language from Hindi domination since 1937. Hundreds died in 1965. Thousands were beaten with sticks and gun shoted with and sent to prison.  But still the Hindi dominance did not diminish. The Government is committed to eradicating the Tamil language and the Tamil race. India is one country. Hindi is its only language. All the parties that ruled and ruling the government at the associations. Now they are taking refuge with the job promotions.

When will the mother language Tamil, rule in world? Tamil is in world will rule only when it is established under the leadership of Tamils who have self-rights.

“Long Live World Mother Language Day” and there is no point in shouting “Long Live Tamil”. Let’s get down to the field. Care should be taken in the development of Tamil language. Let’s save Mother Tamil Let us establish a sovereign state for Tamils.
