Karumpulikal are the fiery children of the blue sea

Karumpulikal are the fiery children of the blue sea

The sea is the battleground for the Naval Team Karumpulikal and the Sinhala Navy. It is an open field without shelter! No hiding places! Win! Or sink! The battle dimension of sea battles is like this.

The Sinhala Navy has ships that can fight against the waves. But Naval Team Karumpulikal only have ordinary boats act as the battleships.
In the deep sea, the Naval Team successfully clash with the enemy’s ships, overcoming even the biggest waves, and the history of the Naval Team´s fighting is audacious. The boats of the Karumpulikal can cause havoc to the enemy, from the enemy’s ~Dora-type ships to large command ships, which have been sunk by the Naval Team´s attacks.

In the eyes of the Sinhalese Navy, every Karumpuli ship is like every other “destroyer”, but unlike those destroyers that stand at a distance, surrounded by all types of ships, raining down bombs and sinking enemy ships, this type of “destroyer” is not a “destroyer”. It must sail until it kisses the enemy’s seas.

The enemy ship must glide towards it without getting caught in the rain of bullets. The wisdom and tact shown by these sea tigers in the rowboat, despite winning and dying, will remain the highest feat of heroism in the history of the Tamil nation.

The Naval Team are a force that threatens the Sinhalese navy, which wants to occupy the sea of Tamileelam. Even in its dreams – the sea and land are the combined homeland of the Tamils.

In this, some of the epic Karumpulikal’s heart-wrenching incidents in the war to restore the sea have been compiled here. These are not just stories; they are the living atoms of the Tamileelam nationhood. The vibrations that will shake the patriotism of future generations.

Revenge
~ “I will not let the man who killed my father who went to work go free?” This words turned Sanjana into a Karumpuli.

She had already witnessed the struggle of her mother to install a time-saving stove in the house when her father was arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy once before. She was small at that time, but she still shared the burden of the family with her mother. The idea of freedom had already begun to sprout in her mind. During her time at home, Sanjana would do all the work with a sense of responsibility.

She doesn’t talk to anyone much. She is so calm. She had a lot of fear. She gets worried no matter what she sees. If she sees a snake. If she sees a caterpillar. She also gets scared when she sees some people. She can’t go anywhere alone. She needs her mother for everything.

Study is not her favorite thing. She had completed her studies up to the tenth standard because she was forced to study.

One day after her father was released, Sanjana was missing. Where could she have gone when she never went anywhere near home? Mother had no idea that she had gone out to fight.
Mother was worried and searched everywhere. But when she found out where she had gone, mother calmed down. My child? Fight? The mother expected that she would return home as she could not stand the movement. But every piece of news about the child was a great surprise to the mother. The mother asked herself many questions.

Sanjana’s battles continued. She also had to work in politics for some time.
After the victory in the Mullaithivu battle. She lost one of her legs during a multi-purpose training exercise in Mullaithivu. But after that, a new momentum came into her; she put on a new leg and went back into the sea.

“In this situation, I will not let the one who took my sister’s leg go free.” Said her brother, who also became a fighter and became a 2nd Lieutenant. Nilavan also became maveeran.

It was in this situation that Sanjana’s father, who had gone to work, did not return.

Last night, the Sri Lankan Navy attacked the boats of the people who had gone to fish. The old man who had gone to work did not return home. Sanjana’s father was also alone.”

When the news reached her ears, she was shocked. The situation at home became a question mark before her. Her sister’s studies, her future, and her daily living expenses seemed like a huge burden to her.

‘Mom, I will handle it…” she had a determination in her mind. The feeling of revenge started to burn within her. She wrote a letter to the leader asking him to join the Karumpulikal Team. She had to wait for the leader’s approval. Her perseverance and self-confidence won out in the end. But even after taking Karumpulikal training, she had to wait a long time for her goal. She remained patient for almost 8 years.

11.05.2006, Sanjana’s boat was unloaded from the boat carrier and her comrade stood on the shore to send her on her way. “I will never come back here.” Her speedboat sped away. “I won’t let the one who killed my father go free.” Her wish came true.

Fasting
No one would believe her even if she was told that she was 22. She always looked and acted like a child. She spent most of her time teasing and making others laugh. She was the youngest in the camp.

She never lags in her duties. When it’s time to cook, she says to me at night while she’s sleeping. Wake me up early, I have a priority tomorrow. When the time approached, she went to the kitchen, which was a little far away, with a bucket of food. All her protestations were to get food. It had been a year since she came to Naval Team of Karumpuli. She still felt that she had not reached her right destination. She dared to do what her mother had told her. If you wish something, then fast and it will happen. She fasts on Fridays.  But she cannot stop eating. But her mother can.

She immediately wrote a letter to her mother. Mother I have a wish, please fast for me and it will come true. will come true. The mother has already a son who became maveeran. She wishes nothing would happen to her daughter. She started fasting for her. “My child’s wish should come true.” This was mothers´ wish.

The next day, the wish came true. The mothers´ daughter became history in the attack of Sri Lankan Navy that sank in the Nayarit Sea.

The innocent mother, who did not know anything, is still crying, “I was the cause of my child’s death.” The mothers´ daughter is none other than Major Kaninila, the comrade of Lt. Col. Anbumaran and Major Niranjini, who also became maveeran with her.

Duty
December 26, 2004. The tsunami disaster had claimed many lives and caused great destruction in our land.

The family of Karumpuli Kannalan, whose native place was Mattacalappu – Kathiraveli, was also caught in this destruction. Knowing the situation, he was sent to his hometown on vacation. There was a lot of work for him there. From raising the family and taking care of the essential needs of the rest, such as shelter, food, and clothing. He had to work to overcome the lack of a home.

Having completed all the training programs for a major attack, he established both ‘affection’ and ‘duty’ in one criterion. His conscience crossed the line of ‘duty’. He made a decision. He went to the person in charge of the attack and explained his situation. ”I will carry out that operation. How long will it take to train and develop a new person for this operation. I must not delay this operation. But I want to see my family.”

Even after seeing the poverty of the family, he did not back down from his goal and did his duty properly. He was none other than Captain Kannalan, one of the Karumpuli of the Naval Team who wrote history in the Kalimuham Port.

Kannalan was a great hero. He never rested for a minute. He was the eldest in the house. His mother had to bear the burden of the family after losing his father at a young age. The elders, knowing his mother’s situation, supported his mother.

He would play some prank on his mother when she came home exhausted from work. He would climb a tree and fall and break his leg. Or he would cut his hand with a knife. If that wasn’t enough, he would fight with someone and get beaten up. He was such a mischievous person. He couldn’t just rest in one place for even a minute.

That was the time when the Indian forces were wreaking havoc on our land.
He was also doing the great job of showing the way to the freedom fighters who were operating in hiding without getting caught by the Indian forces and observing whether the Indian forces were moving or not.

His brother was also a freedom fighter. Once, when the man who was observing my brother was helping him cross the road, confirming that there were no Indian troops, an Indian soldier suddenly arrived at that place. While the two of them were walking as if they had not noticed them, the Indian soldier called my brother. My brother had nothing. When my brother went to go, the Indian soldier hit my brother with the firearm, and he got angry. My brother snatched the firearm that the Indian soldier was holding, hit the Indian soldier, and ran away. Since then, he had to live in hiding. It was in this environment that he was forcibly captured by anti-national gangs and sent for training. Along with many others.

While he was being given firearms and training, he was thinking about how to escape. There were a few others like him. It was only when he saw the right time and escaped with firearms and joined the LTTE that happiness blossomed within him.

When he became a LTTE member, he took the name of his brother Kathiravan, the maveeran.
Now he is a freedom fighter of the Naval Team. And an underwater swimming Karumpuli. He is one of the key players in the third phase of the Eelam War.

Having said his final goodbyes to his friends – the national leader, his relatives, and everyone else, he is now moving towards his goal. In that dark hour, with thunder and lightning, and a shower of rain, they crossed the enemy’s surveillance fences and swam underwater without the enemy being aware and identified their targets.

Another 30 minutes……
Very calmly, the bombs were placed under the ship without the enemy being aware
Another 20 minutes…………..
As they counted every minute of their death, they thought of the leader of the nation and the people in their minds, as they detonated the bomb under the ship. Without shaking – without moving – they held the bomb and swam in the sea water, counting every minute. The last drop of water.
“The Tigers’ thirst is the thirst of Tamileelam” – The Thirumalai port trembled. The ship capsized.

He could not rest for a minute. For the liberation of our nation, for a turning point in the war
He waited for 30 minutes, anticipating every moment of his death, and created heroic history.

At the right time
The time when the “Oyatha Alaika-3” were moving in a heated manner. The days were being counted to destroy the great army base at Anayiravu. One of these days, on 30-12-1999, three enemy submarines, 04 Koovakrab 7,8 Bluesraar were moving from Kalali towards Anayiravu.

To thwart this enemy’s movement, two small boats of the Naval Team and one Karumpulikal boat were deployed. In this situation, the Karumpulikal´s boat’s trap refused to work properly to intercept and attack the enemy’s ships.

Arivarasan, who stood on the shore of Kalali and observed this situation, understood. Without any orders, he immediately made a decision. “We must go to that place quickly.” For that, he had to land his boat. There was no one to help him, and his health condition as a single man was very bad. He was in a state of severe pain in his stomach and could not walk properly. He could not eat solid food due to the pain in his stomach. He was unable to eat on time. In this condition, he was determined not to let the opportunity slip away.

In this situation, he single-handedly pushed his Karumpuli boat, which was in the dry area of Kalali, into the sea, and rushed to the commander Pagalavan, who was standing at Kokkupitty. After asking “I will destroy it”, he obtained permission, and without any communication device, he pointed at the target in his hand and quickly went and destroyed three submarines, four the Koovakriap.

Love

The Karumpuli were as tough as iron. But their hearts were made up of very, very soft feelings, and they also had love.

For this country, for the leader, for the people. From a young age, wherever her mother went, she followed her. She needed her mother for everything, whether it was sleeping at night or going out. She never existed apart from her mother. But when she, realizing the need of the time, set out to fight, the village itself did not believe her at first.

Did she? Leaving her mother? Her explanation was contrary to everyone’s questions.
Only those who love their mother can fight for their country. If I truly love my mother, I can love this country too, she will say like a great philosopher.

Even though she was a great freedom fighter in training and on the battlefield. She never went to bed without uttering the word “mother”.

Once, when she went on vacation, her mother brought back a piece of cloth that she used a lot. Since then, it has been her bed pillow. She never forgets the feeling of being with her mother when she sleeps on it, no matter where she goes.

In all the journeys she takes for the sake of freedom, that cloth also moves with her. The desire to put an end to all the sufferings of the people had now sprouted in that flower’s mind. She had decided to sacrifice herself for the people.

But her wish was that her mother would always listen to her voice, so she had given her mother an audio tape recording of all her favorite songs in her voice. How could she, who loved her mother so much, be able to destroy the enemy and create a new history?

Rude boy
‘Gadaffi’ is a name that everyone says not in front of her but behind her. No one would dare to say that name in front of her. She has such rude qualities in himself.

If there was something heavy to be lifted in the camp, she would do it. She would not need anyone’s help. She would finish the work that two or three of us would do alone. It is not easy to carry heavy things on the beach sand. We would stagger, but Gandhi would walk upright. If a vehicle got stuck in the sand, no matter how many of us pushed it, Gandhi would come and touch it and see it move.

When boats were lowered into the sea, like mature and experienced drivers of the vehicles, Gandhi would light the boat oars on her plough vehicle and very efficiently lower the boats into the sea and bring out the boat carrier. If Gandhi were to row a boat in the sea, we would be afraid to stand on the boat. Because her speed was so fast. She would stand in a narrow circle and row the boat like she was doing a figure eight on a bicycle. She would turn the boat around and if we failed to catch something, we would fall into the sea.

In sports competitions between fighters, Gandhi’s team will always win. It is a sin to block Gandhi in a basketball match.

Gandhi did not know how to hide or conceal anything. She would speak directly to anyone. Her speech would be as if one cut were two. She had the courage to not be afraid of anything.
Gandhi would stand in the forefront to hold the rope of the boat that was descending into the sea and straighten the boat. Although Gandhi appeared to be a rude person in appearance and action, she had a soft heart inside. There were tender feelings. But it is true that she failed in that one thing because she did not know how to express love.

Gandhi was a Karumpuli who dared to sacrifice herself for the people. She was given a boat to attack. From now on, she would have a target for her at any time. As her last wish, she asked the special commander for only one thing.

‘Brother, I will go out to someone else’s place’ was the last wish of a karumpuli, and he immediately granted it. The place where she went out was a surprise to everyone. She had spent a few hours in those oases that were dripping with love, such as the Arivucholai, the Sencholai, the Gurukulam, the Vetrimanai, the Anbucholai, and the Oases that were drenched in the rain of love. When she arrived, she gave a big package to the special commander and said, ‘Brother, open this after I die bravely.”

16-09-2001- ‘Dora’, which provided security to the ship convoy, became her target. For a few seconds, Dora was drowned out by the thunder that had no sound.

When I opened the package in the cupboard, I saw Gandhi, a mischievous girl in a black uniform, smiling from inside the glass frame. Tears running through his eyes.

Through tears

When the youngest son said” Mother, brother is in the van.” The mother ran to the beach. Along with Anbu’s beloved relatives.

The responsibility of dealing with the situation fell on the head of the person in charge. The person in charge called Anbu. Although Anbu hesitated at first, he went and talked to his mother and relatives, understanding the situation.

The mother hugged her son and cried. She fell at his feet and bowed. “Child, don’t be a Karumpuli.” The great responsibility of dealing with the situation fell on Anbu. He made a decision. “I will not become a Karumuli.” He, who never told a lie, became a prisoner of circumstances to the point of taking a false oath. His mother believed him and went home.
Somehow, when the heavy rain of love subsided, Anbu came smiling to the fighters. The fighters’ eyes were watery.

No creature in the world loves deeply except in the motherhood. No matter how determined he is, Amma’s tears will make him waver. Anbu did not waver from the policy he had chosen.

He did not dare to give up his attachment to our motherland for the sake of his mother and the narrow circle of relatives. 20-09-1995, Inbarutti Van started to stir.

The younger brother, who was spying on Anbu, ran to mother to inform him. “Mother, brother is in the boat that was filled yesterday.” A volcano erupted inside the mother. The mother towards Inbarutti Van.

Seeing Amma’s black head on the shore of Inbarutti, Anbu looked at everyone while hiding inside the boat. Amma rolled on the ground, beating her head and stomach. The siblings also cried, saying something. Over the sound of the boat’s engine, they could not understand what they were crying about. But Anbu’s eyes could clearly see their heart-pounding cries.

Tears welled up in Anbu’s eyes as an expression of the love he had for his mother and siblings. His journey to wipe away the tears of so many people was not hindered by the tears of his loved ones. His journey transcended the tears and won.
