Today is the day of the Memorial Day of the Karumpulikal in the Kokkulai Sea, including Lt. Col. Arunthavam and Lt. Col. Bhuvanes, who lost their lives in an unexpected boat accident on 14.10.1999 while they were engaged in a clash with the Sri Lankan Navy in the Kokkulai Sea, Mullai District.
While the Navy’s Tora boats were being intercepted and attacked by the Navan Team of the LTTE in the Kokkulai sea area, two fighters from the Naval Team Sea boats that were targeting the Tora boats unexpectedly collided with each other. In the accident, Lt. Col. Arunthavam, Lt. Col. Bhuvanes, Major Kalaimagal, Major Suriyaprabha, Major Barani and Captain Sudhakaran became maveerar.
During the ensuing clash, four of the SL Navy’s Tora boats were damaged by the Naval Team of the LTTE. During this, the fighter Major Thuvarakan became maveeran.
